Photos are literally a snapshot in time\, and I relish giving my flowers more time to be seen and loved. \nI’m often asked why I always use my business name rather than my own; it’s because it reflects the roots of my inspiration. I grew up on a small dairy farm in Pennsylvania\, and named my photography business in honor of my late father. My love of the land and everything that grows on it is deep in my soul\, a bond with and a gift from my dad. \nI have been a photographer most of my adult life\, though primarily for work as part of a career in communications. I finally stopped ignoring a different potential side to my photography during the coronavirus pandemic. The idea of pursuing a more playful\, creative version had been germinating — pun intended — in the back of my mind for months\, and eventually I gave it a try. I’m having even more fun than I imagined. \nA quote by botanist Luther Burbank from more than 100 years ago hangs in my studio: “Who does not love flowers? Starting with a photo of something that catches his fancy\, he begins his transformational process to get the observer to bypass the well-worn story the image usually prompts and look deeper.\nWith a passion that began when he was only eight\, Thom is fascinated by the use of color\, shape\, gesture and mood to elevate photography to a tool that allows us to see past the obvious and attune ourselves to the infinite messages that surround us at all times.\nAs you can imagine\, this makes him an extremely interesting person. Linda came to us as a mixed-media jewelry artist with bright\, fun\, flirty earrings. SUMMARY:When the Camera's Close at Hand
DESCRIPTION:Laura Reeth has made her mark in the shop and the Inn with her photographs\, which run the gamut from hauntingly beautiful to surprising and cheerful. We’re thrilled to have corralled her long enough to put together an exhibit for us\, titled When the Camera’s Close at Hand\, on display from October 30 through November 29. \nLaura shares\, “Is a walk a walk without a camera? For me\, a camera is my personal filter to express what I see\, even in the routine and the familiar. \nOver the last decade\, it’s a rare day I set out on a morning walk without at least a smartphone in hand to capture what I see along the way.  I prefer to walk just after sunrise when the world is quiet yet still brimming with anticipation\, moving along regular routes\, almost without thought.  Actually\, that’s not true – I put some thought into the daily decisions:  go right or left?  Toward the sun or away?  Busy street or quiet park?  Each answer partially dictates where I go or what I see. \nSeasons and light and flowers and trees change\, but my feet remember the routes and my eyes seek out something new in the familiar.  Are there clouds or is the sun a stark\, singular light?  Is there reflection?  How does the light affect it? Those questions bundle themselves up tightly until they are part of the instinctive awareness of my surroundings. No concrete answer\, just a looking\, a seeking\, then lifting the camera to capture.  Some days the image is exactly what I saw.  Some days I return home and there’s a surprise in the photo\, a nuance that only comes forward with quiet contemplation. \nI share what I see in the routine and familiar with the hope that it brings the viewer a sense of calm\, and perhaps a small drop of early morning anticipation in seeing what’s around the next corner.” \nWe can’t wait to see either\, Laura! \n

DESCRIPTION:Linda Barnhart has been a staple in the shop for many years\, yet her appeal never wanes. We are proud to represent her and very excited to present her Artful Journey exhibit\, which will be showcased at the shop from September 19th through October 25th. \nShe tells us\, “Inspired by a variety of other artists\, I love to experiment to see how far I can push my work.  My first love is oil paint\, but I enjoy adventuring in different styles and mediums such as acrylic paint and encaustic (hot wax) as well as cold wax.  I also mix media and have even used real spider webs in some of my paintings. Subject matter is extremely broad. However\, I also desire to represent human emotion as the subject of a painting finding it difficult to ignore the human condition.” \nLinda has won an impressive slew of awards and remains one of our most popular artists.

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nLea Craigie-Marshall learned art from her mother and grandmother in the mountains of West Virginia. These lessons\, infused with natural beauty and indomitable female strength\, shimmer through in her powerful\, dynamic\, vibrantly feminist art. From dreamy figurative portraits to surrealistic landscapes to socio-economic and civil rights political pieces\, she provokes deeply visceral reactions. Her passionate belief that we should face our time’s toughest struggles with fire and courage informs her beautifully composed artworks\, sparking a spectrum of strong emotions. These works are created with techniques unique to her\, including oils\, resins\, papers and acrylics. Woven through them all are her ethereal soulfulness and startling honesty. SUMMARY:'Abstracts in Ink' Opening Reception September 14th 11AM-3PM
DESCRIPTION:  \n                                                                   \nNew works by Moonstone Muse \nStacy’s career trajectory has been far from linear. She began her career as a graphic designer; soon after she morphed into a web/database application programmer. From there\, Stacy switched gears and was a non-fiction storyteller and technical writer for a NASA contractor\, writing about Near-Earth asteroids and the scientific experiments on board the International Space Station. Stacy has provided project management\, creative direction and technical guidance for eLearning and learning-centered content. Currently she’s a sales proposal writer by day and an inventor/artist/industrial designer by night. Stacy’s art and jewelry are abstract\, original and affordable.  As writing is a fairly structured process\, Stacy favors abstract and free-form art where she can work with her hands. The items in our shop are the result of  experimentation and play\, and it shows.

DESCRIPTION:Anne Finucane is constantly inspired by the beauty of Pennsylvania’s forests\, orchards and fields. She conveys the passion she feels for the natural world in both abstract and realistic styles. \nAnne grew up in Maine\, the daughter of an artist. After earning her BA from Swarthmore College she moved to South Central Pennsylvania\, and fell in love with the landscape. \nHer colored pencil art was the subject of a feature article in American Artist Magazine in April of 2004\, but since that time\, she has been working with etchings\, pastels\,watercolors and linocuts. \nArt has always been part of Anne’s life\, in advocacy as well as practice. She works with both the Council for the Arts of Chambersburg and the Franklin County Art Alliance\, and has served as guest curator and juror for art shows throughout the area\, and as a panelist for the PA Council on the Arts. \nOn the final day of Anne’s exhibit\, July 8th\, she will be at GIB at 1:00 holding a gallery talk. She will discuss her techniques and take questions\, followed by a live demonstration of how she makes her exciting linocuts\, a printmaking technique in which a sheet of linoleum is used to create a relief surface. \nWe are very excited to have an artist of Anne’s caliber doing a meet and greet at our shop\, above and beyond having her arresting artwork hanging on our walls.
