SUMMARY:GIRLS' NIGHT OUT
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nYou know spring is here when the wildlife of Boonsboro begins to prowl\, and no life is as wild as our local gals! It’s time for nibbles\, bubbly\, door prizes\, laughter\, games and fun in the fresh spring evening air!\nWe have a double-delightful lineup for you at GIB\, starting with Sarah Amendola of Mockingbird Lane Artistries and her fantasy jewelry of stone\, metal and Tiffany Technique stained glass. She layers silver solder over copper\, creating an environmentally safe (big deal to us Bellas!) solder consisting of tin\, copper and silver. Each piece is hand-polished and coated to keep the metal shiny. Her work is dreamy\, romantic\, surprising\, and occasionally deliciously nightmarish.\nWe’re also thrilled to bits to introduce an artist new to the shop but a longtime favorite in the area\, Melissa Lettick\, better known as The Herb Lady. Her pure and natural potpourris and fragrance oils are legend\, using only real flowers and herbs with their natural colors and fragrances\, never dyed or plumped up with fillers like wood chips. You can match oils to your potpourri or be your own alchemist and try different oils with certain potpourris and see what results you get. Some oils are excellent as personal fragrances and Melissa can help you find one that suits your own unique self.\nWith these fun\, creative\, fascinating artists and our bonkers staff on hand to keep the energy stirred up (mischief in Marcella’s case) you know this will be THE place to be on GNO. We can’t wait to see you!

SUMMARY:"Meet me in the Garden" Claire Hardy's Modern Florals
DESCRIPTION:Claire Hardy is a grand master of shade and color\, creating heart-stopping oils of the natural world that seem to vibrate right off the canvas. They almost look three-dimensional. We’re forever grateful to Nora for introducing Claire to us\, both for her glorious art and her irresistible personality. Talking to her is as delightful as perusing her work. Part of what makes her so magnetic is her endless eagerness to learn\, and to share what she discovers. The elegant Inn is a perfect showcase for Claire’s art. Don’t miss this one!

SUMMARY:Sunchaser Leap Year Party
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nFour years is a long time to wait to tryst with one’s lover\, so when the moon catches up to the sun every leap year we celebrate their incandescent reunion on February 29th. Julius Caesar\, in consultation with Egyptian astrologists (as you do)\, plugged in the extra day as a solution to the wonky Roman calendar\, a solution so elegant that 2\,500 years later we’re still using it.\nWe’re a little moon-mad here at GIB\, which means we’re a perfect match for silver sorceress Michelle Arsenault\, who will be here on Saturday 29th with her moon-inspired collection\, which simply shimmers with magic and mysticism. You must drop by and see her wares and bask in her blazing sunshiny aura.\nGot a leap year birthday? Come in and flash your ID at us and get a complimentary birthday cupcake!\nStay tuned for our Leap Year Trivia Game- get the answers right and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $10 GIB gift certificate!\nFolklore suggests that during a leap year the weather always changes on a Friday. Let’s all pay attention and see if that’s the case here in our little slice of heaven.

SUMMARY:"Talisman" Rhonda J. Smith Opening Reception January 30th 5:00 - 8:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nRhonda Smith\, an artist and retired Professor of Art from Shepherdstown University\, comes to her creations from odd angles. Her intaglio and Lino prints are impressed onto archival paper through an intricate process of slathering plates with non-toxic inks and over-printing them\, a process as unexpected and exciting as the travels that prompted it. She is fascinated with talismans\, charms for invoking luck and protection. Whether the journey is literal\, artistic or self-discovery\, the knowledge\, experience and surprises all become part of who we are and contribute to more complex being who comes home. Rhonda believes that art demands that both artist and viewer share a quest to find understanding in the art piece\, and that the art itself is a talisman\, a wish\, a prayer that connects the creator and the observer.\nThe Talismans Exhibition will open with a reception at GIB on Thursday January 30th from 5-8 (snow date February 20th)\, with the artwork on display until February 29th. Save the date now to see these evocative\, thought-provoking pieces and their delightful creator\, while enjoying champagne and light refreshments.

SUMMARY:'Abstracts in Ink' Opening Reception September 14th 11AM-3PM
DESCRIPTION:  \n                                                                   \nNew works by Moonstone Muse \nStacy’s career trajectory has been far from linear. She began her career as a graphic designer; soon after she morphed into a web/database application programmer. From there\, Stacy switched gears and was a non-fiction storyteller and technical writer for a NASA contractor\, writing about Near-Earth asteroids and the scientific experiments on board the International Space Station. Stacy has provided project management\, creative direction and technical guidance for eLearning and learning-centered content. Currently she’s a sales proposal writer by day and an inventor/artist/industrial designer by night. Stacy’s art and jewelry are abstract\, original and affordable.  As writing is a fairly structured process\, Stacy favors abstract and free-form art where she can work with her hands. The items in our shop are the result of  experimentation and play\, and it shows.

Wear a piece of the story close to your heart. \n\nSeptember 14 – Stacy Bowles\, local artist and jewelry maker\,  has an instinct for joyful color and whimsy that’s hard to find. But find it you can\, and right here at GIB. We’ve been proud to display her work for over a year now\, and the time has come for a full-fledged exhibit.\n\n\nSeptember 21- Anne Finucane  is constantly inspired by the beauty of Pennsylvania’s forests\, orchards and fields. She conveys the passion she feels for the natural world in both abstract and realistic styles with etchings\, pastels and watercolors. Her goal is to convey her excitement about the natural world to others.\nSeptember 28 – Craig Fowler  uses antique silverware to create windchimes\, bud vases\, keychains and spoon rings. “Like snowflakes – no two are the same thing” \nOctober 5 – Marcella Sager began creating jewelry in 2009. After moving to Boonsboro in 2011\, she approached GIB to showcase her work. She won our hearts with her creative style and wickedly sassy attitude- and she’s now an essential member of our staff! \nOctober 12 – Cath Howard  is a watercolor artist who uses a wide range of techniques and mediums. Her current fascination is the restoration of local architecture\, and in that vein she has been working on a special project- a portrait of the Inn\, which will be unveiled on the Inn porch on the 12th! \nOctober  19 – Anna-Marie Poole  creates exquisite\, functional porcelain\, a personal and intimate art form for her. The feel of a cup in the hand\, how it feels touching the mouth…the shape\, design\, color… all create a bond between artist and patron. \nOctober 26 – Claire Hardy and Beth Carey  Claire grew up in California\, where an art teacher taught her how shading can create the illusion of form.  Her hauntingly beautiful oil paintings (favorites of Nora!) prove what an apt pupil she proved to be. She continues to study and experiment with oils\, always eager to learn from the next painting. Beth Carey has been making elegant jewelry for thirty-five years. Her work is always popular with our treasure-seekers\, and her willingness to teach and share her knowledge make her a perennial favorite with all of us. \nNovember 2 – Tara Bell & Fran Brolle What a duo\, friends and artists working in very different mediums. Tara’s colored pencils and pastels bring movement and joy to her fun and colorful pieces\, including earrings\, pendants\, orginal art\, prints\, bookmarks and paperweights. Fran Brolle is an alchemical sorceress who creates magic in fused glass and metal. Her latest interests include sand blasting and reticulated silver. Together they’re more fun than a pair of otters- come play! \nNovember 9 – Lura Myers & Holly Priester. Lura Myers is the creative genius behind Boonsboro Buckets\, which are the dandiest little bag/tote/purses you will ever find\, super user-friendly and unique\, clever and curious. Lura also makes our tea towels\, aprons\, cosmetic bags\, and a slew of other items we dream up in frenzies of excitement. Holly Priester is the Princess of Whimsy with her wishing bottles\, peace key necklaces\, silverware jewelry and wonderful hanging art pieces. Both of our pop-in artists today are inspired masters when it comes to upcycling and re-purposing. \nNovember 16 – David Cogar is going to spend the afternoon with us\, spinning a tale or two and sharing his knitting talents with us. He creates the cutest hats that will keep you feeling snuggly and warm. \nNovember 23 – Rhonda J. Smith is a practicing artist and retired professor of Art. She uses a non-traditional approach of mounting her prints on archival boards. The themes of her prints\, collages and multimedia work demonstrate Rhonda’s creative adventurousness\, in her physical encounters with places and cultures as well as her artistic processes. \nNovember 30 – Linda Barnhart  is an artist of many mediums- oil\, acrylics and her speciality\, encaustics\, which is painting with wax that is then set on fire! This very old art form\, full of texture and lustrous shine\, is finding a resurgence\, and Linda’s work is the very finest of its genre. \nDecember 7 – Irene Vangsness creates lovely\, functional fused kitchenware and jewelry. Come discover the perfect gift for the holidays! \nDecember   14 – Brenda Swiger designs handmade jewelry using Swarovski crystals\, lampwork beads and gemstones wrapped in wire.  You are sure to find the perfect piece to wear to your holiday party or as a gift. \n

SUMMARY:Girls' Night Out
DESCRIPTION:Spring fever has the GIB staff leaping around like mad March hares\, because we all know what spring in Boonsboro means- GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT!!!\nThis one is going to be a doozy even by our standards\, and we’ve come to expect some pretty rockin’ GNOs. For starters\, we’re going to be joined by the delightful Charissa Hip\, aka HippHikerGal\, who heads up the local group of Girls Who Hike(www.girlswhohike.net/ ). This is a nationally recognized organization based here in the US\, designed to connect women with other women for companionship\, fun\, shared learning and safety on the trails. It’s free to join- go to the closed Facebook communities for folks who identify as female at www.facebook.com/groups/girlswhohikemd/ and request membership. Charissa established the Maryland chapter in January 2018 and it already has more than 500 members. She’s warm\, friendly and fun and you will love her as much as we do.\nAnd since Charissa has everyone fired up about getting outside and enjoying the stunning beauty of our local countryside. \nAmbassor – Girls’ Who Hike \nwe’re excited to host James Harris from Beaver Creek Fly Shop\, the area’s premier full service fly fishing resource. The restorative benefits of fly fishing have been well attested for a long time now\, and we women are ready to elbow the boys aside and claim our place in our region’s creeks and rivers. James will teach us about basic entomology (ie\, all about bugs)\, knots\, rods and reels\, and why fly fishing is so much more complex and yet meditative than plain old fishing. We’re also tickled to pieces to have our old friend Don Fine here\, demonstrating how tie your own flies\, or to sell you his beautiful custom ones.\nEvery gal who shows up to receive casting instruction (out back on our lovely patio) will also receive a one time in-store discount at the Fly Shop.\nAnd of course\, we’ll have champagne and nibbles and laughter and our wacky staff\, and most important of all\, the treasures! Take a moment and fill out a wish list while you’re here- we’ll keep it handy to share with that special someone who wants to give you your heart’s desire and knows just where to find it. \n \n

SUMMARY:New works by local artists Jannon Baer & Sharon Benoit
DESCRIPTION:Waking Dreams by Jannon Baer and True to Life by Sharon Benoit \n Inspire both the left and right sides of your brain with this explosive art exhibit by two equally brilliant but very different painters. Jannon’s abstracts spark sheer delight in the imagination\, while Sharon’s detailed idylls evoke memories of quiet bliss. \nWorks from these local artists will be on display at Inn Boonsboro\, open to the public on April 6th from 1-3. Come meet the artists and enjoy the beauty of their craft against the spectacular backdrop of the Inn. \nAcrylic Painting by Jannon Baer \nJannon is a visual artist with a passion for dance. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Shepherd University. As a freelance painter\, Jannon has displayed artwork in Baltimore and Western Maryland. Recent exhibitions have included the Himmelfarb Gallery at Maryland University for Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia) of Laurel\, Sunlight Natural Health of Timonium\, Expanding Heart Center Gallery of Frederick\, Regenerate Float Center of Hagerstown\, and Washington County Arts Council Gallery. Jannon enjoys combining meditative practices with dance as an offering for healing and to embrace rich traditions of cultural art forms. Jannon is a member of Hagerstown Artists Group\, a local art organization which works to connect local artists to share ideas and positively impact the community through the arts. Jannon has been an in-home companion for the elderly for the past year. Within the past year\, she has teamed up with local drum facilitators from Frederick to offer dance movement for residents in local assisted living centers. \nWatercolor Painting by Sharon Benoit \nSharon Benoit has migrated up the coast from the lower Eastern Shore\, through her study at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in the Smoky Mountains\, to Frederick Community College\, and has landed in Knoxville MD with her family\, in easy reach of the Potomac. Her passion is watercolors\, but she has also studied commercial illustration\, acrylics\, wearable art\, 2&3 dimensional stitchery\, weaving\, batik\, tie-dy\, cast & applique jewelry\, polymer clay and stoneware pottery. Her detailed watercolors have won top awards at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts\, the Great Frederick Fair\, and the Salisbury Institute for Art\, and she has exhibited at a dozen local venues. She tells us that she describes her work simply as ‘realism’. Being outdoors in farm country\, or walking by her beloved Potomac River\, or enjoying the beaches of her youth\, is where she finds her inspiration.

SUMMARY:Wood Carving Demo with Craftsman Steve Ramsey
DESCRIPTION:As part of our ongoing celebration of National Craft Month we’re welcoming local wood artist Steve Ramsey of Carve Diem. He’ll be here from 1-3\, demonstrating his carving skills. \nSteve Ramsey has always been a hands-on DIY guy who likes the feeling of accomplishment achieved from doing a great job with his own hands. So it’s not surprising that\, after seeing a carved primitive in an antique store\, he thought\, “Hey\, I can do that!” and did. He taught himself to carve small pieces\, which evolved into bigger\, more complicated ones\, and now he uses a lathe as well as his hand tools. He likes to use locally-sourced woods\, and he grooves on people loving the perfectionism he pours into each piece. In addition to beautiful rustic bowls and spoons\, Steve makes holiday ornaments\, live-edge tables\, repairs beloved family pieces and even takes special requests.

SUMMARY:Through the Countryside June 1- July 8th
DESCRIPTION:Anne Finucane is constantly inspired by the beauty of Pennsylvania’s forests\, orchards and fields. She conveys the passion she feels for the natural world in both abstract and realistic styles. \nAnne grew up in Maine\, the daughter of an artist. After earning her BA from Swarthmore College she moved to South Central Pennsylvania\, and fell in love with the landscape. \nHer colored pencil art was the subject of a feature article in American Artist Magazine in April of 2004\, but since that time\, she has been working with etchings\, pastels\,watercolors and linocuts. \nArt has always been part of Anne’s life\, in advocacy as well as practice. She works with both the Council for the Arts of Chambersburg and the Franklin County Art Alliance\, and has served as guest curator and juror for art shows throughout the area\, and as a panelist for the PA Council on the Arts. \nOn the final day of Anne’s exhibit\, July 8th\, she will be at GIB at 1:00 holding a gallery talk. She will discuss her techniques and take questions\, followed by a live demonstration of how she makes her exciting linocuts\, a printmaking technique in which a sheet of linoleum is used to create a relief surface. \nWe are very excited to have an artist of Anne’s caliber doing a meet and greet at our shop\, above and beyond having her arresting artwork hanging on our walls. Don’t let this unique opportunity to meet a local celebrity pass you by.
