Meet the Artist

Tom Gately is a talented watercolor artist hailing from central Massachusetts. He began his artistic journey in his teens and twenties but took a long break to focus on his career, family, and renovating a historic home built in 1756 in Brimfield, Massachusetts. He reignited his passion for painting upon retiring.

Tom has received accolades for his watercolor work, including awards at the 2023 Massasoit Art Guild annual show and the 2024 Leicester Art Show, along with the prestigious Vernon Graham Memorial Award for excellence in watercolor painting. He shares, “I’ve always found inspiration in the architecture and landscapes of New England. I’m especially drawn to the light and shadows that only the change of seasons in New England can provide.”

In the fall of 2025, Tom, along with his wife Jane and their two dogs, Riley and Piper, relocated to Shepherdstown, WV, to be nearer to family. “I’m looking forward to painting scenes of the tri-state area (WV, MD, PA). Like New England, this area is rich in history and provides an abundance of subject matter that I’m excited to interpret in my art.”

Recently, Tom was accepted into the Potomac River Artists Guild.
