Lea tells us, “This is my portrait of ‘Isabela,’ my brave Brazilian friend. We met on the beach in Cancun Mexico under the stars. A love of Dave Matthews’ music brought us together at his music festival in February 2020. Had it been a few weeks later, and during the pandemic, we never would’ve met. With our dancing feet in the sand, Isabela, in a cathartic moment spurred on by a particularly deeply touching song, told me of the sexual assault she survived at the hands of her father. Her strength and beauty came pouring out in those moments and inspired me to create this portrait of her.
