Spencer Dofflemyer of NPC. Design is the creative genius behind this smug yellow fellow, hand-slabbed out of clay and infused with unshakeable confidence.
HISTORY: The tradition of shaping human likenesses on ceramic vessels is thousands of years old. Face vessels held different meanings in different cultures around the world. Some were used in burial rituals, others satirized the person whose features were captured in clay, and still others were made just for fun.
ABOUT: Spencer Dofflemyer is an artistic professional with a robust portfolio of over 8 years in ceramics, visual design, and gallery work that strives to facilitate community engagement. He is a graduate of the Temple University Tyler School of Art. He moved from Philly to Mercersburg, PA about a year ago. He works as a freelance artist and a teaches pottery in a studio in Gettysburg, PA. As of February 2026, he agreed to consign some of his pottery to Gifts Inn Boonsboro!!! We’re eyeing his larger vessel pottery pieces and planning for the future.
